n Rules for “Cold Pitching” Copywriting Clients | The Anti-Marketing Manifesto

I’m not a fan of cold pitching someone.

However, it CAN work… if you follow some simple rules.

1) Remember that there’s a real human being on the other end of your pitch. They may have three kids, two wiener dogs, and a truck load of “to do” items staring them in the face at any given moment. Why should they read your fuckin’ email, let alone respond? 🙂

2) Personalize the pitch. The first sentence should be all about them.

Hi Name!

Congrats on your recent trip to Bali, looks like you had a lot of fun! // I really enjoyed your blog post on XYZ, you cut right to the chase with your commentary on ABC.

I wanted to reach out and introduce myself… my name is Michelle Lopez, a copywriter who specializes in brand-specific copy for unique voices…. I write for some of the biggest names in the industry… etc.

3) Have fun with the process.

I NEVER lift a finger on anything that’s drudgery, LOL! I won’t do shit unless it’s fun, or if I can make it fun in my mind.

4) Come with “giving” energy (not “getting” energy).

The universe gives you what you put into it… if you’re giving scarcity energy, that’s what you’ll get back.

Remember, ONE free edit turned into $350,000+ worth of business from a single client (lifetime, to date), because I used this principle correctly.

5) Detach from the outcome.

You should never feel disappointed, or make up a “story” about why anyone rejected you or didn’t answer. That’s a waste of energy. Stay focused on your goal.

6) If your strategy isn’t working, tweak your approach and try again.

All marketing is a test.

It’s about seeing what works, what doesn’t… and repeating what works, while avoiding what doesn’t work.

7) ADVANCED TIP: To elevate to the top, join the person’s program, pay them, or buy something from them so they know who you are.

This puts you leagues above the dozens of other copywriters who are cold-pitching the same people.

I paid someone about $10,000 to be in their programs and events, and they later hired me and have since paid me over $167,000 for writing services.
