Profits and sales solve a lot of problems in business…
But if your finances are a mess, due to poor financial habits, you’ll quickly create the same problems again… and even bigger ones (and not because you’re up-leveling, but because you’re being stupid with your own money).
That’s why I’m writing a chapter on this topic in my SECOND book (tentatively titled, “Free Yourself from Your Entrepreneurial Mess.”)
This year, I’ve interviewed dozens of business owners and entrepreneurs… from those who are crushing it financially, to those who live with their parents because they can’t afford rent and bills.
…And everyone in between.
One grew up in a cult, one lost their brick and mortar during the shutdowns, others got sick and were taken out, some borrowed too much money, some got scammed by purchasing high-pricing coaching from people they didn’t want to be like… on and on.
In these interviews, I’ve heard a wide range of attitudes and perspectives around money and finances.
I was especially curious to hear everyone’s perspective on:
- Debt
- Savings
- Taxes
- Abundance mentality
- How they view themselves
I listened for signs of “lottery mentality” and also signs of someone taking full responsibility for their situation… versus blaming someone or something else.
Most of the people I talked to who are struggling simply need to get their financial mess cleaned up ASAP… because this will free up tons of bandwidth — emotionally, psychologically, and creatively — within them, so that they can start investing more towards growing their business.
When I say “clean up their financial mess,” I don’t mean getting a big windfall of money to throw at the problem.
I mean adopting simple, yet positive financial habits, and getting rid of the negative ones.
For example, most people need to:
– Start budgeting (i.e., “telling their money what to do instead of wondering where it went”).
– Stop relying on debt.
– Save more money.
– MAKE more money.
– Stop hypnotizing themselves with lack thinking and poor views of themselves.
As one who adopts The Anti-Marketing Manifesto, you cannot afford to let your attitude, energy, or mindset plummet, due to poor finances.
This plummeting harms your ability to grow a kick-ass business!
With messy finances lurking in the background, you’ll be secretly bringing worried energy into every potential sale you make. It will lace all of your interactions with fear, doubt, graspy-ness, and clinginess.
People will pick up on this, and they won’t be super excited about what you’re offering.
That’s why you gotta clean up the financial mess ASAP!
Think:
✓ All bills paid on time, no matter what
✓ Savings in the bank
✓ Avoiding all debt (or paying it off fast and never borrowing again)
✓ Planning in advance what your money will do each month (aka a budget)
✓ Reframing your mindset to think in terms of excess money, not lack
✓ Reframing how you SEE YOURSELF!! (this is so key)
I’m so excited to develop this material further!!
