As a kid, I had a dream that I would “Live to 200, while looking 25.”
I refused to believe in the concept of “getting old.” I knew it wouldn’t add to my life, so I just rejected it right off the bat.
I wanted to experience a LOT in life, and I didn’t want to age the way people typically allow themselves to age. Seeing hunched over, droopy, old-looking, tired, sick-looking people with no zest for life, I wondered, “Why do they let themselves get like that?” What was the point?
Eventually I built my business around serving clients who were full of life, energy, and youthfulness. They, too, refused to “be old.”
(Here’s a great video produced by one of my clients, The People’s Chemist, about a customer who’s in his 80s and living young!!)
Today I’m shocked to see people my age on Facebook who look 20 years older than me… and we were in the same class.
Some of my peers are dying of cancer, some are obese, others have that “dead” stare in their eyes, like they’re bored with how their life turned out. I can’t relate to any of them.
“What the hell happened?!” I wonder.
Then I close out of Facebook. (I don’t look at it often. Life isn’t meant to be lived, staring at the evidence of other people’s dissolved dreams.)
So getting to the topic of this blog title… how do you build a bigger customer base?
For starters, stop trying to do what everyone else (i.e., your peers) is doing in business & marketing, because it’s slowly killing them and draining their soul… that’s not for you.
Building a bigger customer base is largely an “inside job.” It starts with YOU actually daring to live your best life, as your best self, now.
When you’re living life to the fullest…doing things that excite you, then writing about them… you can’t help but build your business.
The Anti-Marketing Manifesto is about building your customer base by STARTING WITH YOU!
That means… tap into your personal stories, your life experiences, your wisdom… and write and share about all of it!
Nobody else has your experiences, and nobody else sees the world exactly like you do. This is precisely what makes you fascinating, and what will draw more customers in.
In a world where most people quit on their dreams, it’s super refreshing to see a business owner who is out there DOING WHAT THEY LOVE, AND LOVING WHAT THEY DO!
The most banal life experiences that you think nobody would ever care about, are exactly what will fascinate people the most, get them buying more from you…and yes, grow your customer base.
Find a way to tie in your life lessons & stories to your product or service…and people will buy!
They’ll spread the word, and your business will grow.
That’s gold.
